Protests such as the one pictured suggest a complete disregard for British institutions and the rule of law. Banners declaring that “disbelievers” should not be “obeyed” imply that British laws do not apply. Earlier this week news of the protests about the alleged treatment of the Qu’ran led to deaths and yet, at the same time, they consider it appropriate, or somehow right, to burn the US flag and symbols of the largest religion in the UK (the cross).
I do not want to see draconian laws such as the ‘Incitement to Religious Hatred’ part of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Bill (despite the Home Office’s claims that it will not stop reasonable debate, critiscism or comedy: link) but there must be measures that could be brought to bear against these people.
What are your feelings on the matter? What can be done?
