1605?

What’s this all about? What is this coin commemorating?

2005 Two Pound coin labelled 1605 - 2005

(By the way, I know because I went and looked at the site, but I wonder if you can guess.)

    Gunpowder, treason and plot.

Though quite how the obscure frontspiece symbolises that is rather unclear.

    It’s bizarre isn’t it!

    Swords, mitres and bishops’ crooks…

It’s hardly screaming out “Gunpowder Plot!”

I was wondering what shepherd’s crooks were doing there… ;-)

    Never trust a shepherd.

    Spend too long with sheep…

That would be like the USA bringing out a dollar bill commemorating 9/11.

    Why?

The difference to 9/11 is that it never worked. They arrested Mr Fawkes. Hence the anti-catholic celebrations on 5th Nov.

I always liked the sterling work of the Leage of Ted Heath Burners. Far better than a Guy.

And burning Ted Heath (or the Pope in Lewes) is far more justifiable… Just see the comments on my death-penalty post to see what people think of that, let-alone using violent methods to bring about that end :-)

What did the Pope ever do to Lews ;)
