Sadie, I absolutely that people should make that decision for their own benefit.

What I do not think is that the government should tell people when and what to do unless and until it affects someone else... Obviously the anti-social result of excessive drinking does affect us all, but as far as Brighton is concerned, it seems to have worked well...

Licensing decisions should be the power of the local Council and the freedom offered by 24-hour drinking should be welcomed by all Councils.

In my area, the unsavoury people who seem to spend all day in their local pubs now spend even longer there, and weave their drunken and noisy way home at a later hour. This is not appreciated.

Absolutely -- actually Jon, we could have run into each other -- I left the Full Moon pub at 1.30am too!

I left The Globe (Ship Street I think) around 1:30AM this Saturday and walked home via West Street. There was a reasonable police presence and far less rowdyness than normal for that time of night.

Personally I think its working on a social behavior level in the town. But it may generate a few more alchies. I have noticed a lot more daytime alcoholics on the streets of Brighton over the last 5 months but I'm not sure this is due to new laws. And instead of smelly old coats they all seem to be sporting quite new tracksuits.

I've also noticed that I'm going out to the pub at 9PM with a hot meal inside me. Rather than at 7PM on an empty stomach. This is good news.

On the whole, I think it was a good move and I've not seen any real problems so far (or at least any new problems that weren't in existence anyway!).
