I just wanted to give you a thought on the David Irving case.
I support David Irving’s imprisonment for two reasons: One, he broke the law in a sovereign country and two, lied about something that continues to affect people’s lives today. The Jewish people continue to be a target of extremists and Islamists.
That said, we support this law because it is about truth. While the holocaust is undeniable because of the evidence available, so is evolution — and yet large numbers of people continue to deny it…

Are you suggesting those arguing against Evolution should be locked up aswell? I can see the temptation….

Gav,
Is this very subtle irony?
Please tell me you’re not serious.

This isn’t my words!
I’m all for freedom of speech and I think Austria’s law is wrong on this. But I do think he was daft to go back to Austria knowing that he’d denied it!

I think the Austrians had no choice, given their very special hisotry, but to enforce this law. I would rather that it did not have such a law, same goes for Germany, but I can understand in their cases the extreme sensitivity which decided them to have it. I don’t often agree with Germaine Greer, but she had it correct on ‘Any Questions’ on Friday when she said the correct response with Irivig would be to treat him for what he is – a ‘complete nutter’. The man is quite obviously seriously deluded and has been for most of his life – his twin brother Nicolas is interviewed in today’s Telegraph and it is clear that his delusions go back a very long way. He will still think as he does now, I fear, when he is released from prison and will no doubt be welcomed as a speaker at lots of extreme right-wing venues. He was a fool to risk going back to Austria after their action dating from 1989, but he probably relished the prospect of notoriety and/or martyrdom – I have little sympathy for him. The Austrians, for their part, have not really exorcised their demons yet, in the way that Germany has.

My apologies Gav.
I didn’t see the name at the top.

No problem Mark, I’ve added the bold and size difference since your comment…
Bill, I wouldn’t necessarily agree that Germany’s exorcised its demons… Not from what I’ve read.

Gav, the only name I see is David Irving, so I presume this is your viewpoint. [Ed. Nope]
Personally I feel that Jews do not really need much charity as I think they have the largest power-to-capita ratio on the planet and can probably look after themselves (I’d like to be proven wrong here).
David Irving’s comments are wrong. I think most people realise that. Locking him up will make he a martyr to a few stupid people willing to believe what he says. It would be quite ironic if Liberty were to try and champion his cause for mis-imprisonment.

Just to update. I see the “Miss Anon” name on the main blog, but there’s no sign of it on the single entry page.

Thanks John, good spot. I’ve updated the template! What confusion she’s caused…
