I have just been advised that there will be no candidate standing against me in the elections in May and that I will, from May 4th, be a District Councillor for the Buckingham Ward in Adur District Council.

This is how Tony Blair would like all elections to be…

To be honest I am really disappointed. This will be my first election to anything and I would really like to see the count and my name on an election slip…

Congratulations!
I wonder why Tony’s party isn’t fielding any candidates? Is the place you live *that* Tory?

Thank you!
They are fielding candidates in other wards but I believe the ward is the safest in the south east of England if not the whole UK…
That said, the other parties are also not fielding candidates in another ward which you would expect to be Labour… The second place party in most of the wards, though, would be LibDem.
You say *that* Tory… It may well be that a lot of the voters of Hove who previously made it a safe seat have moved west.

Sorry to be like, really thick, but what exactly is a District Councillor?

It’s what happens when you let all the meeja riff-raff in…The good people move out…
Even the top-heavy Jordan has managed to move out to Goring, apparently…

jOnz,
It’s kind of like being on the GLA, but more effective.

Gavin,
Best of luck in the Council, I’m sure you’ll do a sterling job!

j0nz — the services performed by the District Council are these: Local Services.
Other services are performed by the County Council. In my area there is not a Parish Council…

I wish you success in your new role.

Congrats Gav. No election is something I never like to see in local politics, but finding suitable candidates can be a serious problem at times; catch 22, local councils are crap, so govt takes power from them, they have no power, no one wants to do it, so you get less decent candidates, etc.
Hopefully, that cycle can be broken, in the meantime, good luck soon to be Cllr Ayling
