Is it near a hospital? Or just randomly in the middle of what looks like a housing estate? I also fail to see the need for the “…prosecuted” bit at the end – I mean if an air ambulance or whatever needs to land I’m sure people can get off their fat arses and move. Unless…. they mean it is a landing area to be used for helicopters suffering from an emergency – gliding down… virtually silently… in which case I’d understand better the need to keep it clear… but anyway, you’re quite right, it is a rather strange sign…

There’s no Brighton Borough Council any more either — it’s been the City of Brighton & Hove (Brighton City Council) for ages…

I suppose there is a hospital reasonably close. The next most odd thing is the football goals on the land that you’re not to trespass on. I still love the sign though!

They’ve got one of them outside the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. There are some tank crossing road signs near Farnborough, they’re quite entertaining and I don’t remember seeing them in the Highway Code!

Kind of related – Telford has an abundance of traffic islands with only two exits – one on, one off. You might think it was a clever bit of forward planning but most of them have been there for well over 10 years and there’s still no new development in sight.
