The following site gives a forum for the discussion of any local elections taking place in May this year.

Thanks to Dizzy for this link.

Rustington West had a by-election yesterday and the votes came in as follows:

Party 2006 By-election 2003 (AJD’s Figures)
Conservative 44% 53%
Liberal Democrats 33% 35%
UKIP 15% 7.7%
Labour 6% 4%

The reason for posting this is the results for UKIP. People don’t, I am sure, prefer UKIP in any sense except that they have a more reasonable position on the EU. When will my party start listening?

Update: Using Daily Propaganda’s figures, I’ve added a column for 2003’s results.

If you were in government and had some spare money in the public’s finances there would be four choices open to you:

- Cut the ridiculously high taxes
- Increase spending (bad idea — the government’s NHS debacle has shown it doesn’t work)
- Keep it for a rainy day
- Rearrange toilets in prison to suit a particular religious requirement

I know I’d choose the first one. I know that most sensible people in the world would agree that one of the first three is right. So why is our stupid government doing the last?
