I’ve been searching for some non-compliance in Internet Explorer 7 — it seems to be reacting to every webpage in exactly the same way as Firefox!
For example, J0nz’s (is it apostrophe-s after a ‘z’?) website normally has the word “comments” hidden unless you hover on it in Firefox. In Internet Explorer 6, the word was always visible; In Internet Explorer 7, the word is hidden as, I assume, it should be!

There are still some issues with margins/padding/line-heights and all that stuff… A bit of a pain, but at least they seem to be trying to get IE to work properly. Firefox is still better though

If you really want total compliance then Konqueror under KDE 3.5 is the best out there. Hell it even passes the Acid Test II and renders the page correctly compared to the mess that the rest do.

I have to say I like the tab which shows all the pages as thumbnails — there’s a Firefox plug in which does something similar, but the IE7 version looks like it’s supposed to be there….

Hmm. IE being good again? I’ll give it a go, but I’ve always preferred the Netscape family regardlss of how good Fx is.
Still, it’s a very good example of why competition and markets are a good thing, forcing M$ to catch up is definately good.

Last version of IE7 I used still didn’t support CSS2 properly. Would you do a comparitive test for me, Gavin?
I’ve written a plugin that produces a dynamic index page for WordPress. I use it on my 404 error page. It looks terrible in IE!

The page does look different… There only seems to be one CSS related difference, though… The rest is content that is missing!

The “missing” content is right there in the stylesheet. I didn’t mind IE6 ignoring it. I was surprised that IE7 still ignores it.

Yup, I see now on re-reading the code…
Naughty Microsoft.

Naughty? Perhaps in the past I might have thought so but not now. I’m actually quite sympathetic.
I think MS are chained to 10-year-old browser technology because they cannot afford to break the internet experience of several tens of millions of their customers. The world’s biggest software company has become a prisoner of its own success.
Maybe MS should license and distribute Firefox as a second Windows browser to complement IE.
