The following set of photos shows a pedestrian crossing on a 40mph road (legal limit) which is often a 50 - 60 mph road. The crossing is the only one on the road until the pedestrian bridge (see image 4) on the same road. It means that less-young people must either risk their life (literally) or walk 20 minutes around the road. For younger people it means they will take a risk and run across a frankly lethal road.
I am writing to West Sussex County Council this afternoon to ask them to provide a temporary alternative crossing. I shall direct the recipient of that e-mail to read this post.
Finally, before the images, I should point out that the cycle path stops dead at this point. There are two options for cyclists following this closure. First they can turn around and try cycling around the Holmbush Roundabout (not adviseable) or cycle on the footpath (not strictly legal).

This last image shows to young people (sorry for the label) chancing it to cross the road — they shouldn’t have to do that.
