I understand the need to protect intelligence sources etc, but if MI5 et al cannot be trusted, as is clearly the case, then they must not be allowed without some form of citizen oversight.

I agree that is would be difficult in practice but I cannot tolerate the thought that a governmental department is in a position of such power. It was only dumb luck that brought this to the fore!
