I rarely take a bath — I always shower. In fact I don’t believe I had a bath in the four years I lived in my last home.
I am replacing my bathroom in my new home and I am seriously considering not having a bath. My three best friends have all replaced their baths with showers and have not looked back, but some people whose opinion I trust have told me it could affect the resale value of the property if there’s no bath.
So I’ve decided to ask you: What should I do
(a) Bath with a shower; or
(b) Shower only?
Tell me in the comments if you have a strong opinion and tell me why!

You’d be crazy to take the bath out Gavage, like you say, for resale purposes…but dont use it! What a waste of water!!

Well, I have no strong views either way, but I certainly think that for re-sale purposes it would probably not be wise to dispense with a bath altogether – possibly you could have a bath with a super-duper shower fitment and a proper screen – make it smart and practical, that way you can have your shower in comfort and when it comes time to sell it’ll be an attractive feature.
As for me I use my en-suite shower-room at least daily, if not more often. Occasionally I use the bath in my main bathroom, but on the rare occasions I do use it this is late afternoon when I relax for an hour in a foam bath with a book or a magazine and the radio. The bath has its own very good shower fitment (and glass screen) and I like to take a quick shower after I’ve soaked in the foam bath in order to rinse off the foam.

I’m not sure what your personal circumstances are Gavin but I would suggest that a bath is pretty essential for young children.

Looks like the vote has gone to the bath, but for what it’s worth…
I rarely take baths, but I just had an op that required me to bath my stitched wound in salt-water for a week. Tricky if I had not had a bath tub.
But don’t just get a standard tub, go for one of those large corner ones you can sit upright in, that would be a good seller.

A corner bath it is then!

Bath with a shower. Only the bath can do, once a week at minimum, what the shower cannot. Also, it’s good thinking time – to slow down and consider things.

Hello. I’m here from James’s blog. A bathroom’s a very personal thing and a lot of people put in a new oner anyway when they buy a new house. But for what it’s worth, I would want both a bath and a shower.

What’s wrong with the garden hose? More space then.

Beaman, I think we’ve learnt rather more about you than I am comfortable with

Everyone seems to have gone with the bath, and I agree. Personally, I always have a bath, rather than a shower. So much more relaxing.
