Surely the more repressive powers the police have, the more danger of the 'rogue element' misusing them? It is my opinion that they should have the absolute minimum necessary to keep the peace balanced with the individual's right to freedom.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of the police investigation. Irrespective of one’s view on the powers available to the police, and personally I feel often they don’t have enough power, in this case, they were very much in the wrong with respect to how they treated and unnecessarily attacked Ian Tomlinson.

The issue, however, is how will this reflect on police officers in the future? Simply because one or two officers take something out of context and act unnecessarily does not mean we should paint all police officers with the same brush and become wary of them and their so-called “powers”.
